Yabbies have large claws
Yabbie (Cherax destructor) is a freshwater crayfish. They are surly, wet and live in holes in the banks and taste great!
Minniribbie Yabbie Farm started with a pilot scheme in 1987. The venture proved successful and now boasts eight kilometres of channels.

Water quality is essential for yabbie production and oxygen levels are critical. Correct ph is essential for shell growth, as the yabbies moult to grow.

When their shell is too tight, they remove the calcium from their shell and store it. They then shed the old shell and expand rapidly.
The yabbie are actually inside a very thick skin and harden their new shell from the stored calcium.
Warmer temperatures are best for breeding and catching.
